Helgafellskirkja
The country church at Helgafell on the Snæfells peninsula was built in 1903, but it has been a churchstead since Christianity was adopted in Iceland in the year 1000. In 1184 an Augustine monastery was established at Helgafell, which was for long a centre of learning in West Iceland.
