Major John Buttrick House - Concord, Massachusetts

Minute Man National Historical Park Located within Minute Man National Historical Park across from the North Bridge Visitor Center, the Buttrick House was the home of Major John Buttrick who led the march to the North Bridge and ordered his men to fire after being fired upon. It was here that two Patriot militiamen killed in the skirmish, Isaac Davis and Abner Hosmer of Acton, were brought after British troops left the area. One of eleven ‘witness houses’ within the park, it is sited on land that had been in the Buttrick family since 1637, a few years after Concord was founded. Jonathan Buttrick, Major Buttrick’s father, built the house between 1710 and 1717. At the time of the battle, John Buttrick was a well-respected farmer in Concord who was active in town activities and committees. Enlarged three times since its original construction, the Buttrick House was purchased by the National Park Service in 1962. It is currently not open to the public.
