The Vale of Ewyas horseshoe: returning to Llanthony Priory

The Vale of Ewyas horseshoe is a 27km (17 mile) ridge walk in the eastern ranges of the Brecon Beacons starting and ending at Llanthony Priory. Built in 1118 and abandoned in 1539 during Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries, Llanthony Priory would in its heyday have been one of Wales' great medieval buildings. The last few yards to get back to Llanthony Priory from this point are ironically probably the hardest to navigate as they pass through farmland. Keep an eye out for the gates and stiles in the hedgerows.
