If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be in the Howgills as you push up the M6 towards Scotland, here's the answer. Great hills, short grass with few fences and no forestry. I remember some years ago being at the next door table in Tebay Services cafe-restaurant to Sir Chris Bonington and a team who were preparing a video for the campaign to prevent a proposed wind-farm being built in the Howgills. Fortunately the campaign was successful and in 2017 the Howgills were incorporated into the Yorkshire Dales National Park (despite being mostly in Westmorland and geologically more akin to the hills of the Lake District).
