Tregaskarð (Mourning Pass) is one of two mountain passes used in the past for transport between currently uninhabited valleys in the easternmost part of Iceland (and in the present for hikers drawn to remote regions). The unusual name is said to derive from a wailing sound heard on windy days from the pass. While spooky, it helped travellers to find the pass in this foggy region. The rock spike on the right side of the pass is Tregaskarðskerling - or the Ogress of Mourning Pass.
