The-Taxi-Drivers-2011-03-27 FVJ - Ishinomaki Local Conditions 417CP3

In the first few weeks after the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, I joined a few different groups of volunteers to deliver supplies to several shelters along the coast. On one of those trips, I came across this pair of taxi drivers. They were navigating a difficult path to deliver bottles of water to their taxi dispatch office. The first floor of the office had been hit by the tsunami, but they were quick to clear out the tsunami mud and resume operations. Most vehicles in the path of the tsunami were destroyed, including much of the taxi fleet. These drivers were critical for transportation around the city, especially for families that were evacuated into shelters, but still wanted to return home to take care of their pets, and try to clear out the debris and tsunami mud from their homes.
