This giant cypress dates back about 2000 years to the Han Dynasty. It was designated the second Sacred Tree of Alishan in 2007 when the original, 3000-year-old Sacred Tree died after being struck by lightning. 「香林神木」舊名光武檜，由前台灣省主席黃傑命名，因推算其落地發芽的時間約為東漢光武帝年間而得其名。2007年1月1日，繼阿里山第一代神木於1956年因雷擊而死亡後，於2007年被選為第二代神木並改名為「阿里山香林神木」而廣為人知。 alishan.okgo.tw/scenic/3136.html
