GSWA camp with #WAG9623 Land Rover at Israelite Cove 5-6-65 all to be replaced by proper Scans. Now done, this is from the scanner.. miles south of Balladonia.. after camps on Sat & Sun nights at Pine Hill, shot at ducks and drove into scrub west. checked oil sprung a leak and fuel line broken too! This was on the July visit, one month later... On the July visit....we headed to Heinsmans Rock, stalked the ducks and took a few shots, and they flew off. Single shot .22 !! chased a few then we drove to here and set a few rabbit traps. Had lunch then drove to a few granite outcrops and got the LR bogged around the edges. Bent the L fender again! Have a few B&W photos .. We visited here on our first tour around the whole mapping area, with Dave's supervisor, Phil Playford on 4th June. The previous day, Saturday... We filled the water tanks and petrol, fuel was from 44gallon drums that we bought and left standing for return visits. From Balladonia we drove a few miles away and made camp and cooked our rabbit stew. Next day, Saturday, 5th, we drove in convoy, I used the hand throttle and practiced my mouth organ. We met Tom Dimon, the local dogger and inspected his new Toyota Land Cruiser, which he had fitted with aircraft land tyres to reduce the staking by tree roots and sticks while scrub bashing... We headed East to Murra-el-eleven Cave where we lunched and then descended to the lake and waded out for a bit. Half an hour or so.. then continued to Cocklebiddy and headed south to the dunes where we "thrashed" through a few bogging sections in four wheel drive, probably with highway pressures in the tyres. This was my first experience of driving in soft sand and over dunes... my vehicle was heavier with supplies, Phil drove some of the way to our camp in the dunes.. see photo here. 5329x3586 Mary's birthday 55 years ago!
