Kirkjuvogskirkja

The church at Kirkjuvogur in Hafnir in SW-Iceland was built in 1860-61. It is reputed to have cost the equivalent of 300 cows at that time. Its original appearance changed during the years and it was painted in light colours, but in 1970-72 the church was renovated and returned to its original state, including a covering by black tar, under the supervision of the National History Museum.
