The Reykjavík Concert and Conference Centre is intended to become a waterfront landmark like the modern opera houses in Copenhagen, Oslo and Sydney. At a cost now estimated in the range of 27 billion Icelandic kronur, some say it will exceed the cost of Gehry's stunning Bilbao Guggenheim Museum. In any case it is a hefty sum for a near-bankrupt nation of 300,000+ souls. Some wanted the unfinished hulk to become a memorial for the megalomania preceding Iceland's crash, but the government is going ahead full speed, and soon it will be decked with glass and looking more impressive than on this photo. For tax-payers' sake, lets hope the music will be good and the conferences fruitful.
