The church at Krísuvík is surely one of the most modest houses of god in the northern hemisphere. Or was. Built in 1857, it burned to the ground on 2 January 2010. There was no electricity in it and arson is a possible cause. If so, that makes the loss even sadder. The lonely abandoned church was a favourite of photographers in the now depopulated area around Lake Kleifarvatn south of Reykjavík.
