The church at Hellnar in Snæfellsnes in W-Iceland is made of concrete and dates from 1945. To the left is the glacier-covered Mt. Snæfellsjökull (1446 m) and to the right is Stapafell. For centuries, Hellnar was one of the main fishing places beneath Snæfellsjökull. At the beginning of the 18th century, about 200 people were resident in the area, either on small farms or in labourers' huts. Now, only a handful of people live there, and tourism is the main activity.
