Red rock

The tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula is covered by recent (in the geological sense, i.e. after the end of the last ice age some 10,000 years ago) lava flows from the volcanic cone Snæfellsjökull. The sea has relentlessly pounded and shaped this volcanic rock and the beaches are peppered with interesting formations, like this one (spot the child, for sense of scale).
