Skálavík

Skálavík in the Westfjords in NW-Iceland is an isolated bay & valley walled off on all sides by mountains. It is now uninhabited, save for a few summer houses. In former days it was home to a few fisheries-dependent farms by the seaside, even if the unsheltered bay is pounded by a heavy surf from the open Atlantic, making landings by the small rowboats of the time a risky business. The mountain is named Öskubakur.
