Teide caldera
A view from the top of Mt. Teide (3718 m) on Tenerife, looking at the rim of the caldera surrounding it, measuring 16x9 km in diameter. It is believed that there was a mountain about 5000 m high on Tenerife, which largely collapsed into the sea in a catastrophic event some 150,000 years ago, triggering tsunamis 150 m high. Such events will likely happen again, luckily probably in a very distant future.
