Mt. Teide (3718 m) is Spain's highest peak and considered the planet's third highest volcano measured from its base (which is below sea level; the taller ones being Hawaii's shield volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea). Teide is on the island of Tenerife and last erupted in 1909. The mountain and surroundings are in a national park, said to be the most visited park in Europe (although the Canary islands are geographically close to the African continent).
