Every time we were to be overtaken or passed by trucks, or mad 4WDrivers, we pulled over and switched off the engine. The air-cleaner was rinsed off once in 18,000 km, and then only for interest. It is a good idea to call them on the UHF, and warn them you are looking for a spot to pull over. We often pull over on the wrong side of the road to get upwind!
