In May 2011, my friend Sajid and I travelled to the Istana Woodneuk, the palace of the Johor Sultanate in 1890. In our time there, we were respectful of the place and its energies. I felt nothing malevolent or oppressive, perhaps just a tinge of sadness, a place forgotten.
